Blackie´s Bar - EVERY TIME I SEE YOU, YOU'RE IN A BAR
Blackie´s Bar - Aloha is a two-way street
Blackie´s Bar was built by Blackie and Sara Gadarian in 1981 at Blackie´s Boat Yard in Lahaina, Maui. It was located half-way between downtown Lahaina and Kaanapali, across from the old pineapple cannery.
The entrance stairway at Blackie´s Bar was lined with pictures of shipwrecks and boats damaged in storms at sea. The Bar's motto Is "Promote safe boating - Stay ashore and drink at Blackie´s Bar".
The open-air gazebo building with a bright orange roof had views of the West Maui mountains and palm trees silhouetted against the Pacific Ocean. Music on the bar hi-fi was always mellow jazz.
Blackie´s Bar was the longest running jazz club in the Pacific Ocean. Blackie´s was internationally famous for its quality "straight ahead" jazz performances by professional musicians on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays & Sundays from 5:30 to 8:30 P.M.
Blackie´s Bar was open for adults from 10:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. daily for Maui's coldest beer, popular cocktails, and freshly prepared food.
Blackie´s Bar closed in 1995, and the boat yard property was sold to a developer, who converted the buildings to a gas station, convenience store and carwash. However, many long-time visitors have fond memories of Blackie's Bar, Lahaina.
